Swiss court fines speeding millionaire $290,000

ST. GALLEN, Switzerland — A Swiss court has slapped a wealthy speeder with a chalet-sized fine — a full $290,000. Judges at the cantonal court in St. Gallen, in eastern Switzerland, based the record-breaking fine on the speeder’s estimated wealth of over $20 million. A statement on the court’s Web site says the driver — a repeat offender — drove up to 35 miles an hour an hour faster than the 50-mile-an-hour limit.

If you get fined but not stopped (e.g. caught by a Speed Camera) the police will send you the fine even if you live abroad. In Switzerland, speeding is not a violation of a traffic code but a Legal Offence, if you fail to comply there is a good chance that an international rogatory will be issued and you have to go to court in your home country.

Poseur Doctor Dupes Patients for Months -Finland

Trust me, I'm a doctor.

Police say the suspect had no medical training whatsoever, although he claimed to be in the final year of his medical studies. Police believe that the fraudster forged certificates in order to gain a foothold at the health centre. He he later continued the ruse at Karjaa Health Centre. The man was arrested early this week under suspicion of aggravated forgery, fraud and unauthorized practice as a health care professional. A decision on whether or not to remand the poseur in custody is expected on Friday. A request for an inquiry into the man’s activities was made at the Vihti police station about one week ago.

Police have however said that the man posed no danger to the safety of his patients, as he worked under the supervision of a senior medical officer.
