Corruption in Mexico | WTF?

Mexico, where would we be without you? We’d probably be free of disease, have less of a drug problem, and we’d have about 761,610 square miles of inhabitable land. All jokes aside about conquest, the most recent President of Mexico, Felipe Calderon, launched a war on drug cartels and corruption in general. In Tijuana and also Ciudad Juárez, the army ordered that all local police officers surrender their weapons, as it is suspected that many officers have ties with drug cartels. This move definitely stepped on enough toes to generate a war zone in these major border cities.

This blog has a suggestion for Felipe, from one world leader to another. How about focusing on your northern border control issues? If you stop the revenue source of the cartels, will you not eventually send them into a fiscal and emotional depression? What do you think? How would you subdue over a century of corruption if you were in charge?

8 Years in Prison for Graffiti! | WTF?

Gently Down the Stream for Me

Corpus Christi, Texas: Courts have deemed graffiti so heinous that 8 years in prison seems to be the only fitting punishment. This month, 18-year-old Sebastian Perez was sentenced to state prison after pleading guilty to three vandalism charges and one for marijuana possession. So, I know he’s no artist and definitely in some violation, but is he guilty enough to require 8 years in prison for $7300 worth of damage? According to this reliable PDF The state of texas will take $140,000 of taxpayer money to house Mr. Perez for his eight long years.

Prisons cost Texas taxpayers $49.40 per inmate per day, which is $18,031 per year. This is lower than the national
average of $24,656.

Dubai’s Bankruptcy: Both Moral and Monetary

Money Money Money.... Money!

Money Money Money.... Money!

With the news of Dubai’s new debt repayment plan We’ve decided to take a more in depth look into what Dubai really stands for.

We all think Dubai is a magical city where the West flourishes and the definition of impossible does not apply. There are man made islands, beautiful buildings, and a plethora of tourist attractions that blow our minds straight off (need we mention the indoor ski slope?). The city is a destination for westerners and western corporations looking for the extraordinary.

On the outside Dubai seems to be a perfect point on the Arabian Peninsula. If we look closer, we can see the dark side of Dubai.

They lure you in telling you it’s one thing – a modern kind of place – but beneath the surface it’s a medieval dictatorship.”
